Instant Recap

The line of scrimmage was the story for Oregon Friday night, as the Ducks Offensive and Defensive line led the way to a 31-10 victory over Michigan State at Autzen Stadium. For a rushing attack that was at best inconsistent through four games, Friday’s combination of explosiveness and efficiency was a welcome sight heading into next week’s showdown against Ohio State. Not to be outdone, the defensive line again turned in a dominant game, holding the Spartans scoreless until the 4th quarter behind a second straight game-wrecking performance from Jordan Burch.

After a bit of a slow start, largely due to two Dillon Gabriel Red Zone Interceptions, the Ducks led 7-0 after the first quarter after Gabriel’s 9-yard rushing TD. The second quarter was an excellent blend of balance offensively and a late touchdown pass to Evan Stewart capped a great drive to end the half 21-0. While their first drive resulted in a three and out, the offense put up over 350 yards in the first half, led by Jordan James and the entire offensive line. James finished the half well over 100 yards, including his season-long of 41 yards.

21 points would turn out to be plenty of offense with the way the defense is playing right now. The combination of the aforementioned Burch, alongside Caldwell, Uiagalelei and Harmon were in the backfield all night, holding Michigan State to 30 carries for 59 yards. Combine that with another 6 TFLs and 5 sacks and this unit is playing as well as any defensive line at Oregon in recent memory.

Next up for  #3 Oregon is #2 Ohio State in what might be the most anticipated game in the history of Autzen Stadium. College Gameday
will be in town, and the game will kick at 4:30 PST on NBC.
